Welcome to our new Radiologist Spotlight series.  We hope that you enjoy these short posts about our radiologists.  Today, we visit with Dr. Brian Auster.

Home Town

I grew up in Auburn, ME.  All of my schooling was in Boston.

Radiology Sub-Specialty

  • Salt water reef aquarium.  I had a tank as a kid and when I bought my first house, I decided I wanted a tank in it. Current favorite animal in the tank is a red and white striped coral banded shrimp.
  • Astronomy : Star gazing with my kids and niece
  • Black belt in Tae Kwon Do (retired…)

Why medicine?

I knew I was going to be a doctor since the 2nd grade when I did a report on how the eye works. Honestly, I never seriously considered any other career.

Favorite Charitable Organization

The Elise Gilbert Foundation − for my sister-in-law who passed away in 2001 from Lymphoma. Elise’s daughter, Melanie, was two when she died. Melanie (now 13) lives in Parkland with her dad, stepmother and stepsister, right down the street from us. We moved to Florida from Boston in 2004 so we could live near Melanie. The foundation raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
