Interventional radiology is a highly specialized field within radiology in which minimally invasive techniques and image guidance are used in treating patients. SteleRAD radiologists have a long history of excellence with regard to vascular and interventional procedures. Although digital subtraction angiography is utilized for the majority of these procedures, many interventions are performed using fluoroscopy, ultrasound and CT guidance. A wide range of catheter based treatments for peripheral vascular disease are performed such as angioplasty, stent placement and thrombolysis, as well as vascular access for dialysis patients, including opening occluded grafts and fistulas. Embolization is routinely used for the treatment of fibroids, tumors and hemorrhage. Aortic aneurysms are treated with endovascular stent grafts. Venous access devices are routinely placed to help with infusion of chemotherapy in cancer patients.
Vascular & Interventional procedures in addition to those listed above include:
- Endovascular stent and stent graft placement
- Thrombolysis
- Inferior vena cava filter placement and removal
- Embolization
- Catheter placement for selective chemotherapy infusion
- Central line placement
- Dialysis access intervention
- Percutaneous image guided biopsy and drainage
